Top 5 Tourists Attraction Sites In Tanzania You Should Visit

Mount Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro is undisputedly the major tourist attraction in Tanzania. This mountain is a world heritage site. Yet, its highest peak, Uhuru, is one of the highest summits in the world.

That’s some feat, eh?

Yes, it is. And you had better come with your mountain climbing gears and some sweaters. Mt. Kilimanjaro is a snow-peaked wonder standing as tall as 5,985m above ground.

But mountain climbing isn’t all there is to Africa’s tallest peak. You’d also find wildlife such as birds, buffaloes, elands, elephants, leopards, and monkeys.

Zanzibar

The island of Zanzibar is only second to Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in terms of tourists’ influx. Such is the beauty and attractiveness of this site!

The island consists of some of the most amazing beaches in the world. With varying features of white-clean sands to the clear-blue waters, Zanzibar beaches are world-class holiday destinations.

Tip: check the beach in Pemba. It is also pleasurable.

About activities: there are several offerings at the Zanzibar beaches. You can decide to stick to beach games or just surf the waters.

And if you’d like to sit still on the traditional boats and watch the aqua lives, you’d soak the fun all the same.

The Stone Town

Talk of old civilizations and the stone town will come up. How so?

This site is the oldest (and still functioning) Swahili civilization in the world. Everything from the buildings to the churches is all rich with historical and cultural heritage.

Originally built as a trading town on the Indian oceans, the stone town had since transformed. It is now a picturesque ground for tourists from all over the world.

While you’re there, you should check out:

  • Brit el-Sahel – used to be a palace where sultans call home.
  • Hamammi Persian baths – are believed to have healing powers.
  • Old Fort – is the oldest building in the town.

Selous Game Reserve

Perhaps you’re tired of the histories. Then, you should check the largest reserve in Africa. Only Selous covers up to 5% of Tanzania’s landmass.

The reserve is a combination of cliffs, deep forests, grasslands, plains, and waters. Thanks to strict maintenance, Selous’ over 450-species of wildlife are well protected.

Tourists only have access to grasslands where animals often parade to drink from the Rufiji River. Some of the wildlife you’d sight here include:

  • Antelope,
  • Birds,
  • Elephants, and
  • The big five.

Lake Victoria In Tanzania

The last attraction on our list also happens to be the largest freshwater lake in Africa. It also borders two other African countries (Kenya and Uganda).

Also, Lake Victoria is home to Rubondo Island National Park. There you’d find several animals.

The best part: you’d have enough time to capture the moments and have fun at lake Victoria. That is because tourists don’t overcrowd the site.

Note: there are other attractions in Tanzania. However, the five in this list promise the most fun. So, don’t miss out on them.
