Welcome to Kenya! And if you’re not here yet, you should come soon. The country has exciting sights and sounds you’d like to experience.
Beautifully enough, the Kenyan experience could be what you seek. The thrills are of adventure and nature undiluted!
So, where should you visit to soak in all that fun?
Tsavo National Park
Tsavo, covering over 4% of Kenya’s total landmass, is the nation’s largest park. By itself, Tsavo is pulsating with life and fun.
The park is into two sections:
- Tsavo East
- Tsavo West
Tsavo East holds more of the game viewing fun. This section is famous for the picturesque views of herds of elephants.
Aside from elephants and their herds, Tsavo East yet has:
- A world-renowned flow of lava at Yatta Plateau,
- The crocodile-pools at Lugard falls,
- The hikes at the Miranda Rock, and
- The palm-like twist Galana River.
Unlike the east, Tsavo West is less animal watching and more landscape viewing. Nevertheless, Tsavo West is still home to spectacular views such as:
- The crocodiles and hippopotamuses at Mzima springs, and
- Bird watching at Chaimu crater and the Ngulia Rhino sanctuary.
Lake Nakuru National Park In Kenya
Lake Nakuru is almost always pink. That distinguishable feature is thanks to the flocks of pink flamingos that often visit the site.
Aside from flamingos, about 450 species of other birds also visit Lake Nakuru. As such, the park is one of the best sites in Kenya to watch the two-legs.
Besides birds, Lake Nakuru park also contains wildlife such as the big five, white rhinos, and pythons. The park also houses Africa’s largest store of the tree species, euphorbia candelabrum.
Mount Kenya
Mount Kenya offers you the window to hike at the highest peak in Kenya. Cool, eh?
Even in Africa, Mount Kenya is only second to Kilimanjaro. The mountain stands at about 17,000ft above ground. From the peak, you will get an overview of some of the breathtaking landscapes of Kenya.
For the hikes, you can use either of these options:
- Batian Peak – is the highest point on Mount Kenya. Use this option if you are an expert at technical mountain climbing.
- Point Lenana – has the aid of a Ferrata route. Such is the standard that it is the highest in the world.
Diani Beach
After all the mountain climbing, you need to rest. You can relax at Diani beach.
Luckily, Diani is easy to find. The beach is along Mombasa to Nairobi. Once you get there, you will love the combination of the forests, the Indian ocean, and white sands.
Some of the top activities at the Diani beach include:
- Kite surfing,
- Nature walking,
- Sunbathing, and
- Whale and shark watching.
Lamu Island
Before you head back to your country, you should check the small, UNESCO-recognised island. Lamu is only a few miles away from Mombasa.
Lamu is a historical island with a heritage that stretches as far back as the 12th century. So much so that Lamu is the oldest settlement in Kenya.
Since you are at Lamu, you should also visit the Lamu Museum, Lamu Fort, and a donkey sanctuary. Those sites contain old artifacts of the remains of the Europeans, Arabians, and Indians.
Now, the list is complete. Have fun in Kenya!
